When Michael D Hillegas Sr. was born on 22 April 1729, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, British Colonial America, his father, George Michael Hillegas Sr, was 33 and his mother, Margaret Hill Schiebenstock, was 24. He married Henrietta Cox Boude on 10 May 1753, in Christ Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 6 daughters. In 1775, at the age of 46, his occupation is listed as first treasurer of the united states. He died on 29 September 1804, in Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 75, and was buried in Christ Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.
Late in the 19th century, his descendants petitioned[5] to have his portrait appear on the ten-dollar gold certificate in the series issued in the years 1907 and 1922.[6]
